Take a trip with us back in time to when records were made out of vinyl and a transistor radio was considered the latest tech gadget. Did the mid-century culture shape the music, or did the music shape the culture? And, music was far more wide ranging than just Frank and Dino (albeit we love those guys). The talented musicians from that era left an undeniable impression on us that can still be felt (and heard) today! And, it's those artists that paved the way for the next generation to push the boundaries of rock n roll, R&B, and a thing called disco.
We are fortunate to have a large venue, ample room, and there's plenty of parking within walking distance. Close enough to the heart of Palm Springs, so guests can stroll over, either before or afterwards, and enjoy many of the restaurants, bars, and other wonderful events during Modernism Week . Our events will be held through Modernism Week in February 2023. You're going to have a great time!
Hear amazing featured speakers reflecting on their personal insight into the 60s and 70s. Music industry notables and the talented photographers that captured those incredible moments will enlighten you with their stories. These talented artists got the zeitgeist and defined cool for the rest of us. Our memories, and those of generations yet to come, of what life was like in the mid-century were largely formed by the music and imagery. Was it all peace, love, and flower-power? Or was it a time of war, a struggle for civil rights, and adults unable to understand teenagers? The vibe was often defined in the magazines and over the radio. The one-on-one interviews interspersed with photos, film clips and live music will bring attendees back in time. Your senses will thank you long after our event winds down.
An evening of music capturing the magic of the 50s, 60s, and the early 70s. During this era, numerous musical genres were born and blossomed. Sinatra and the Rat Pack, the British Invasion, country, folk, funk, jazz, Motown, pop, R&B, soul, and surf music all got radio play... and let's not forget rock 'n' roll. Well-known musicians from notable bands and session musicians come together for a jam reveling in the sonic spirit of Modernism. Interspersed throughout the evening are their stories, providing brief, personal insights into one of the most memorable eras in music. Where else can you hear everything from Dean Martin to Dick Dale in one night? This is wonderful opportunity to relax and be tickled with music that we know and love.
The Sight And Sound captures the era unlike anything else with a screening of The Wrecking Crew. Filmmaker Denny Tedesco presents his amazing documentary that reveals the actual musicians that produced many of the most well-known tunes from the 50s and 60s. The movie exposes the truth behind the music, the bands, and artists we know and love on vinyl. This chronicles the rise and fall of the real, little-known heroes from that era - the session musicians! Denny will enlighten us before the screening, a follow-up Q&A, and don't be surprised if a few special guests show up, too!
Music isn't just one thing - it's everything! Our event is chock full of musicians, photographers, sound professionals and industry insiders that can paint a picture of what the world looked like in the 50s, 60s, and 70s and how that influenced them.
Our agenda mixes live music from the era and stimulating conversations with featured speakers.
